Senses & Spaces is a full-service design firm based in San Diego with a mission to enhance the human experience through the built environment. A full time position is available for a Job Captain with 3-5 years of experience. REQUIREMENTS:

  • Oversee medium-sized projects with a successful track record of managing Residential, Commercial, or Institutional Architectural or Interior projects for at least 3-5 years.

  • Capable of mentoring and fostering good organizational skills in younger team members.

  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills in driving profitability within a design firm in the past.

  • Proficient in conducting code and zoning research, with a critical focus on delivering projects on time and within budget. Prior training in scheduling software, i.e. MS Project is essential.

  • Strong technical background encompassing materials knowledge, detailing, and systems coordination.

  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the time required for design and production tasks to ensure efficient project completion.

  • Showcase a diverse portfolio of past project types, which can be leveraged while leading new projects.

  • Ability to enhance projects from both a financial and design perspective, ensuring successful technical execution.

  • Exhibit a passion for continuous learning and improvement by actively participating in outside research-oriented organizations and pursuing further education opportunities.

SKILLS:

  • System Coordination and Detailing: Possess the capability to assess the completeness of design documents at any project stage. Identify the interdependencies between different materials and systems that require seamless integration.

  • Proficient in Revit: Possess in-depth knowledge of Revit to effectively use it throughout various design phases, create customized families, and produce comprehensive construction documentation sets.

  • Familiar with CAD/SketchUp/ArchiCAD: Exhibit flexibility in adapting between different software platforms, enabling seamless transitions and efficient design workflow.

  • Strong Communication Skills: Possess exceptional public speaking abilities, essential for motivating, coordinating, and managing team members effectively in this role.

  • Construction Cost Estimating: Exhibit expertise in conducting cost estimates to establish the initial project budget with the Client.

  • Basic Excel Skills: Possess foundational proficiency in Excel, capable of using it for basic data management and calculations to support various project tasks.

  • Holistic Design: Embrace a comprehensive approach to design, encompassing knowledge about nature, materials, and building systems, which adds value to creating harmonious and sustainable environments.

  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign: Demonstrate a high level of skill in utilizing Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, empowering the creation of visually appealing and professional design presentations.

  • Familiar with Photoshop: Have a working knowledge of Photoshop, enabling the manipulation and enhancement of images to enhance the visual representation of design concepts.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Architecture or Interior Design Degree (preferred)

  • At least 3-5 years of experience working in an architecture or design firm

We offer two regular work schedules: 8 hours/5 days per week or a 9-hour Monday through Thursday and a 4-hour Friday. Within these hours, we offer a hybrid work model, allowing for both in-office and remote work.
